This research project focuses on the prediction of MOSFET failure of SiC-based power electronics building blocks. It is a collaborative project with Dr. John Donnal at the United States Naval Academy. The research can be broken down into two major parts: The design and construction of an SiC-based resonant power converter and the design of a signature-recognizing circuitry to detect aging in SiC MOSFETs. Figure 19 shows the resonant tank of the resonant converter rated for 30 kW. Figure 20 presents the prototype of the sensing circuitry to detect leakage current, and thereby determine the state of the SiC MOSFETs. This work was funded by the Office of Naval Research MVDC Risk Reduction program under Grant Number N0001418WX01706.
